New post and some tips

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Hi everyone! I know since the last time I posted here your youngest child has had the time to graduate from medical school. I’m sorry. Chalk it up to being busy and maybe a little lazy.

I have a few things to bring to you that can improve your pool game that I’ve noticed people do (or not do) in the last few months:

1. Chalk up your stick. I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again. So many mistakes are made because someone “miscues” due to a lack of chalk on the tip.

2. Maintain your stick properly. Have you ever been shooting pool and notice the shaft of your cue stick is tugging on your bridge hand? That could be due to the hand grease sticking on the shaft. Just rub it down with some Pledge or other wood cleaner/polish. You may also have to sand your stick down smooth and refinish it. That will give you a smoother hit and reduce mistakes.

3. Slow down. Slow down in how fast you shoot so you get a chance to think. Take that opportunity to chalk your stick as you look at the table. Also, slow down your shot. Hitting the ball so fast it could win the Indy 500 isn’t necessary. You have better control over your shot, placement of the cue ball, and what balls the cue ball hits after contact if you shoot softer.

Well, that’s all I have for now. Look forward to more posts, much more often. I started this website because I have a passion for a quality game of pool and that passion has never changed. Keep looking back for more posts. I plan to start posting more often again. Comments are welcome too!

Also, add me on the social networking sites you see a little further down the sidebar.

Cheers,

Shooter
